Omaha Poker can be found in almost all online poker rooms, and in all of the poker rooms listed on this page. Here, you'll also find a summary of the rules of the game that will give you the information you need to get started. Omaha Rules are easy to pick up, and with the prevalence of free and real money online poker rooms, you'll find it easy to refine your skills.
Omaha Poker can played by between 2 and 10 players, and is played with a total of 9 cards. Each player gets four individual ("pocket") cards and all players share five community cards. All players at the table can use these cards to improve their hands. The ultimate goal of the game is to assemble the best 5-card combination from the nine cards, with the best poker hand taking home the pot. (You should remember, however, that since you're assembling your hand from 9 cards, hands are typically better in Omaha than they are in other games like Texas Hold'Em). You're going to need a strong hand or a gutsy bluff to win. Also, keep in mind this rule, which is probably the most important in the game: Winning hands must consist of two pocket cards and three community cards. No other combinations are possible (for example, you can't use just one pocket card and four community cards).
Here's a bit more about the flow of the game according to Omaha rules:
- The players to the dealer's left start the game by posting "blinds", or antes
- Each player receives four pocket cards
- There is a round of betting, capped at one bet and three raises per player
- Next, three community cards come out, known in poker lingo as "the flop".
- Next, a fourth community card is dealt, known as "the turn"
- Another round of betting takes place
- A fifth and final community card is dealt, knowon as the "river card"
- A final betting round takes place
- The "showdown" happens, as remaining use two of their pocket cards and three of the community cards to put together their best hands. The best poker hand wins the pot
